Review - It's 2031, seventeen years after authorities in seventy-nine countries decided collectively to combat global warming with the coolant CW-7. The result was the Earth being immediately sent into a deep freeze, killing all human life except a handful who now live on an "ark", a revolutionary train built before 2014 by a train aficionado named Wilford (Ed Harris), the train which at that time was considered useless and self-indulgent. The train is required to be constantly moving to generate energy for life inside, it which circumnavigates the globe on a single continuous track once every year. The train is still controlled in all of its aspects by Wilford, who has created three separate classes housed in different parts of the train: the privileged "one percent", who are at the front of the train, the workers who support both ends and occupy the middle of the train, and the "tail people", the masses who live at the back of the train like cattle in a windowless cattle car, they being solely fed protein bars, whose ingredients the tail people do not know. The face of Wilford's ideology to those in the tail end is Minister Mason (Tilda Swinton), as Wilford never ventures to that end of the train. Some of the policies which Wilford has implemented is taking many of the children from the tail end for an unknown purpose never to be seen by the people in the tail end again, and committing occasional indiscriminate genocide in the tail end, most of the tail people believing as a method of population control, and to demonstrate his dictatorial power in an effort to have a complacent populace amongst the masses. There have been many attempts of revolution by the tail people in the past, all quashed by Wilford. Curtis (Chris Evans), one of the tail people, wants to attempt another revolution, he believing all past attempts having failed because they have focused on Wilford, as opposed to what he feels needs to occur for power: take control of the engine at the front. Supporting Curtis in this fight are, amongst others: Gilliam (Sir John Hurt), the wise old man; Edgar (Jamie Bell), who Curtis took under his wing when he became orphaned in the early years; and Tanya (Octavia Spencer) and Andrew (Ewen Bremner), who want to find their children taken away. Along the way, they have to co-opt Namgoong Minsoo (Song Kang-ho), an addict of a synthetic hallucinogen called Kronole, he who designed the security system, namely the locking mechanism of the gates between all the train cars. As Curtis and his team try to work their way from car to car from the tail to the front, their priorities are influenced by what they see, what they learn, and by revelations including secrets from their individual pasts

Snowpiercer chugs into Edinburgh carrying quite a bit of baggage: a contentious re-edit by Harvey Weinstein à la Grace of Monaco, the burden of previous English language flops by other Korean directors ( Stoker, The Last Stand); and a daft-sounding premise involving a giant allegorical train that goes over tired ground covered by Elysium and District 9. However, I can report that Snowpiercer works brilliantly, the sum of extremely disparate parts that adds up to cinematic excellence. The base material is a French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige; the director and co-writer is Bong Joon-ho, best known for the South Korean monster movie The Host; the cast is a multi-ethnic collection including Chris "Captain America" Evans, Korean star Song Kang-ho, Academy award-winner Octavia Spencer and the UK's own Tilda Swinton, John Hurt and Jamie Bell. The premise is indeed daft: after a "second ice age", all human survivors have retreated from the frozen planet inside an enormous train, which is divided on strict class principles. We start off right at the back, among the unwashed proletariat, where revolution is being fomented by Curtis Everett (Evans) and his loyal sidekick Edgar (Bell); their immediate target is to get through the gates to the next set of carriages, which are protected by brutal, gun-wielding guards. In its constricted, surreal conception, there's something of absurdist theatre about Snowpiercer, though developed to grotesque extremes – as if Terry Gilliam or Michel Gondry had been hired to rewrite Samuel Beckett. And in the absolutely straight-faced way the inhabitants of this bizarre environment respond to it, it betrays the influence of recent Korean cinema – another of whose pre-eminent practitioners, Park Chan-wook, has a producer credit. It looks wonderful too: the exterior shots of the train barrelling its way through the ice-bound landscape are superbly realised, and each carriage – from the in-car aquarium to the strobe-and-mirrorball nightclub – is a beautifully detailed miniature. But it's the strength of purpose that carries this film through, for all its wonderful design. Each carriage forward represents a new struggle for Evans' Curtis, with Song's "security expert" and gate-opener along for the ride with his wide-eyed daughter Yona (Go Ah-sung). Among their opponents are Vlad Ivanov (from 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) playing a near-indestructible killer, and Swinton, who plays the elite passengers' mouthpiece as a cross between Deirdre Barlow and Margaret Thatcher – another in her gallery of extraordinary cameos. The way the allegory works out is not exactly subtle or unexpected, but is strangely moving, despite the gruesomeness that has gone before. All in all, a treat.

Snowpiercer 2019. I never saw the train as capitalism as much as I've looked at it as 'society' or a nation, which makes it a bit more widely applicable. Although you are right about the different classes of people not having the options to change the social structure and relationships of the passengers to the extent that Wilford can, I would argue that this includes the revolutions of the tail section. Just like the Architect of the Matrix and his waxing of how many revolutions he has put down, it's important to note that Morpheus and the humans, just like the tail passengers on the Snowpiercer, believe that their revolution will be the one to end the oppression. There was ample opportunity for different sections to join the rebellion, but none do probably due to the fear of violence and the comfortable lives they have now - they have no idea what life is like in the tail other than dirty, so there's a great disconnect there and you have the forward-sections passengers/upperclassmen people effectively siding with the authority of Wilford since they do nothing to depose it. Whereas the Matrix merely reset the system on new terms, Snowpiercer's answer to the state (Wilford, the masked men, and uniformed passengers) and the rest of society (the other section's complacency in this arrangement) is to remove one of the most important roles from their position, Timmy, which sets in motion the whole derailment of the train and thus the destruction of society.

Snowpiercer film. This movie was awesome. It was cool, original, and dark as shit. It really went for the surreal fantasy elements and it worked. That being said, it is weird and has plenty of plot holes. But all movies have them, a movie is good when it makes you forget them when you watch it. Snowpiercer fight scene. What the movie felt for me is that we live in a closed system, but the boundries are not physical. Society exist only because we believe in it. But what is keep everything in place? We just wanna live a good life. And in order the maintain the hope a better life, we need some alienation. In the movie, the alienation was forced because there were afraid of the outside. So Wilford knew that. he knew that people, rather then giving up, just wanted to make it further down the train. That's human and animal nature. I was asking myself, why these people just keep going? Why not just quit and die? Avoid all the pain and the sacrifice. But no, we have to keep going. But when you get to the end, you realize how crap it is. Like Wilford said, they all are prisoners. We shoudn't be afraid to get out of our way, get out of the train, to find answer to our questions. One day, we will have to face it. Better live a life of pain (to give death a meaning) than accept an infinite status quo of litterally turning around in circle for eternity.

Snowpiercer full movie. If you wonder how most of the things would have worked on such a train, don't, because they wouldn't. The story does right to not go into too many technical details which would have just ruined the film.
What the film is about is mostly social and philosophical issues, like the most striking one: the purpose of our existence on this planet.
Aren't we all in a "train" that goes around every year, blasting some of the obstacles away, losing some of the passengers, making or hearing big speeches that mean very little, adopting false notions about "Sacred God. Sacred Socialism" or "Sacred Capitalism" that will never fail us, despite the fact that they fail us all the time.
Aren't we turning it slowly but surely into something that looks less and less like a place we would really want to live in? Does our food even taste like food anymore? Do we even remember how real food tastes like? We can't get off this "train" most of us don't ever get to leave our section, so the only thing that we can actually do is enjoy the ride and every day as it was our last, because it might as well be.
Also is any individual worth more than the whole? For the last thirteen years we have been preached that any single life has less and less value when it comes to removing "imminent threats to the whole. The train ride has gotten much rougher since 911 and the "banking crisis" and the tail sections have been fed worse than roaches in order to keep the very few at the top of the train in full control and in a luxurious style of living.
But do not worry, the revolution is coming. br> P.S. Watch this film with an open mind, don't think too much about it while you watch it, do it after the end.

Snowpiercer movie. This I will watch. The thing that confused me the most about this film was the fact that they had Damien Walters play that one security guy and all he did was get his arm chopped off. I mean, if you get him, you could at the least have him do some flips when he fights apart from that amazing movie.
